What To Expect From the New Season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm”

It’s hard to believe, but it has almost been six years since the long-running HBO comedy show “Curb Your Enthusiasm” went off the air in 2011. But it’s coming back for a ninth season on October 1, and already fans are anticipating what to expect from the new season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

Many of the regulars of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” are set to return

From what we now know, many of the regularly appearing stars who made “Curb Your Enthusiasm” such a huge hit for HBO are set to return. That includes Larry David, of course, as well as Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman and J.B. Smoove (Larry’s roommate and friend). And here’s the really exciting part – Cheryl Hines, who played Larry David’s TV wife, is also set to return. They got divorced in Season 8, so the fact that she’s coming back could mean a huge plot twist coming for Season 9.

That’s not all – the Hollywood couple of Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen (who have appeared in 18 of the show’s 80 episodes to date) are set to return. As is Richard Lewis, one of the leading stars of the show. All in all, this is a very exciting development for “Curb Your Enthusiasm” – everyone seems excited to be coming back, and that’s going to be a real treat for long-time fans.

Across social media, the show’s returning stars have been leaving captivating hints about what to expect in the next season. Back in November 2016, for example, J.B. Smoove posted a funny Twitter video clip of himself appearing at Larry David’s movie trailer. And Richard Lewis, too, has been posting some nostalgic photos of him and Larry David.

“Curb Your Enthusiasm” is also going to feature new talent and new plot twists

But if you think that “Curb Your Enthusiasm” is going to rely on long-time regulars, think again. Already, the show’s producers have announced a long list of Hollywood celebrities who are planning to play fictional versions of themselves, including Lauren Graham (of “Gilmore Girls”), Jimmy Kimmel, Elizabeth Banks (of “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” and “Pitch Perfect”), Bryan Cranston, Ed Begley, Jr., Nick Offerman, and Judge Judy.

The big question, of course, is what types of roles they are going to take on. One angle could involve Larry David’s romantic life. In Season 8, he was involved in a divorce from his TV wife (Cheryl Hines). But could you imagine what might happen if he happens into a romance with, say, Elizabeth Banks?

And don’t think it couldn’t happen – the show’s co-stars have been teasing for months that Season 9 is going to blow your mind. Jeff Garlin, for example, has said that, “The story line is rather insane.” He also noted that fans would be up in arms, saying, “I can’t believe they’re doing this!”

And it’s not just Garlin who’s been dropping major hints that a huge shake-up could be in store. Mary Steenburgen has said, “We’re going to stir up a little bit of a hornet’s nest.”

For now, all story lines and narratives are being kept under tight wraps. However, on IMDB, there was a suggestion that one of the early episodes would involve Larry David getting scammed by an online dating site and falling in love, if only briefly, with a Russian woman.

And don’t forget, hackers claim that they have all the episodes of the upcoming Season 9 of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” much as they got their hands on all the episodes of Season 7 of “Game of Thrones.” So don’t be surprised if episodes and scenes are leaked on the Internet between now and the show’s debut in October.

“Curb Your Enthusiasm” is going to quickly catch us up on the past six years

Fans obviously have a lot of questions about what happened between Season 8 (all the way back in 2011) and Season 9 (October 2017). And it looks like we’ll find out very quickly all the details. One of the show’s executive producers stated in an interview, “You’re going to find out very quickly what everyone’s been up to…” He also noted that, the show was going to go to “a really strange, fun, crazy place.”

Fans want to know what happened to Larry David, J.B. Smoove and Richard Lewis first and foremost. At the end of Season 8, remember how Larry David got into a dispute with his neighbor Michael J. Fox. So maybe David ended up moving somewhere else. Also, remember how Larry David and J.B. Smoove (“Leon”) traveled to Paris to avoid taking care of sick kids at the end of Season 8? Maybe there’s some kind of strange, insane development involving Larry and Leon.

The “Curb Your Enthusiasm” teaser trailer might hold some clues (or maybe not)

In mid-July, HBO released a very brief two-minute teaser trailer for the new season of “Curb Enthusiasm.” The clip showed Larry David dressed as Julius Caesar, turning slowly around on a dais. On the screen were the words, “He left. He did nothing. He returned.” That’s obviously a reference to the famous Caesar phrase, “He came. He saw. He conquered.”

But might there be a hidden meaning in that? Yes, it’s funny all by itself, but it might hint that Season 9 is going to feature some plotlines based on the life of Julius Caesar. Oh, wait, that can’t be good, can it? Does it mean that there’s a Brutus in there who somehow double-crosses Caesar (i.e. Larry David)? Let’s hope for the best, right?

One thing is clear – the same trademark humor that made Larry David so successful and his show “Curb Your Enthusiasm” such a runaway success is coming back, and it’s doing so in style. We can’t wait to see Larry’s new neurosis, and to see what’s happening to all the offbeat characters around him. In fact, you might say that we can’t curb our enthusiasm about “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” The good news is that the premiere of Season 9 is less than two months away!
