Creed

Creed, the upcoming film, was directed by Ryan Coogler and produced by Kevin King Templeton, Robert Chartoff, Sylvester Stallone, and Irwin Winkler. It was written by Aaron Convington and Ryan Coogler. Creed is based on characters by Sylvester Stallone. Maryse Alberti is the cinematographer and the editors are Michael P. Shawver and Claudia Castello. It was distributed by Warner Bros. and production companies include New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The running time for the film is 95 minutes. The country is the United States and the language spoken is English. The movie’s budget is $35 million.

The seventh film in the Rocky series was brought into the light on July 24th, 2013. This was when it was announced that MGM would be signing on the director, Ryan Coogler, who would be writing alongside Covington. The original producers of the project consisted of Irwin Winkler, Robert Chartoff, Keving King Templeton, and Stallone. It was said that Stallone would reprise his famous role as Rocky and this was later confirmed on April 24th of 2014 when Coogler was talking to THR. He said that he had sent the latest draft of Creed to the studio and confirmed Stallone in addition to Jordan. In November of last year Andre Ward and Tony Bellew joined the project, both real boxers. Shooting was set to begin in January of this year in Philadelphia and Las Vegas. The female lead, played by Tessa Thompson, was added on December 16th and on January 8th of this year it was said that actress Phylicia Rachad would be joining the cast. Graham McTavish tweeted on January 21st regarding his involvement in the project.

Initial filming began in England on January 19th, 2013. England is where the first scene was actually set, so it was logical for it to be the filming location. The initial scene captures a football match at Goodison Park in Liverpool between West Bromwich Albion F.C. And Everton F.C. Philadelphia was another primary location for filming. An empty store was transformed into a boxing gym at one place in Philadelphia, and this is the place a few scenes were shot where the boxers trained. Filming was also seen at The Victor Cafe which was converted into Adrian’s Restaurant. Filming was seen there on the dates February 13th and February 16th. On February 18th Jordan and Stallone were seen at the location. From late February to early March filming took place at Sun Center Studios in Aston Township. The film is scheduled to be released on November 25th, 2015. Other movies have been set to be released on the very same date, such as Victor Frankenstein, The Night Before, and The Good Dinosaur.

creed main character

The cast for Creed consists of Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa, Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Johnson, Tessa Thompson as Bianca, Stephanie Damiano as Ring Girl, Graham McTavish as Tommy Holiday, Phylicia Rashad as Mary Anne Creed, Maria Breyman as Ricky’s friend, Ritchie Coster as Pete Sporino, Mark Rhino Smith as Conlan’s buddy, Chandra Anderson as Ring Girl, Cory Kastle as Box Seat Audience Member, Tony Bellew as “pretty” Ricky Conlan, and Claire Bronson as Social Worker.

creed movie

One of the most popular boxing sagas to ever make history is Rocky, starring Sylvester Stallone. Rocky, the first film, was released in 1076, Rocky II was released in 1979, Rocky III in 1982, Rocky IV in 1985, Rocky V in 1990, Rocky Balboa in 2006, some years later, and now finally Creed will be released in 2015—certainly breaking the title-trend of “Rocky.” In total all of the Rocky films compiled together have had a budget of $119.08 million and worldwide they grossed $1,271,222,322. The first movie, Rocky, is considered an exceptional classic and was given an approval rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. The later movies, particularly IV and V did not get very favorable reviews, with IV getting 38% on Rotten Tomatoes and V getting 26%. Rocky Balboa, however, got a rating of 76% and had the most amount of reviews of any of the Rocky movies with 175 reviews. All of the rest had less than half that many. Sylvester Stallone was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and Museum on December 7th, 2010. This was because Stallone had payed tribute to boxers by way of the character Rocky.

It has taken quite a bit of time for any real details to be released about Creed, at least as far as plot and story go. Finally the image of the film is becoming slightly more clear. It has been called a semi spinoff of the Rocky franchise, but now more details are finally available. Adonis Johnson is the son of the famous Apollo Creed (for whom the movie is named after, presumably) a world heavyweight champion, but he never had the opportunity to know or meet his father as he passed away before Adonis had even been born. Adonis strives to follow in his father’s footsteps as a boxer. He travels to Philadelphia where he meets his upstart Rocky Balboa. Rocky agrees to train Adonis as he sees clear potential in the young man, recognizing his father’s strength. Let it be known, also, for those who are not familiar, that Rocky had ties with Apollo Creed as a friend and rival. Meanwhile Rocky is training the young Adonis he is battling his own demons. Adonis, of course, gets an opportunity to win the title.silvestre stallone apollo son creed

The synopsis suggests that Rocky may be battling some serious illness, although this is not certain or obvious from the information available here. Nearly a decade ago the last movie came out, Rocky Balboa. It did favorably well which suggests that the new Rocky movie, Creed, has potential to excel. It is true that Stallone won’t be quite as crucial to writing and directing as he was previously, but he will nevertheless represent Rocky, otherwise there would surely be a lot of disappointment. There are other reasons Creed may be promising with some new blood. Michael B. Jordan is known for his part in Fantastic Four and Tess Thompson is known for her work in Selma. A Walk in the Woods

In 1998 Bill Bryson wrote the book/memoir A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail. The book talks about Bryson’s hike across the Appalachian Trail in a somewhat humorous style. The 2015 movie A Walk in the Woods is an adventure comedy biopic film and it is roughly based on the book. The film was directed by Ken Kwapis, produced by Chip Diggins, Robert Redford, and Bill Holderman, and the screenplay is by Rick Kerb and Bill Holderman. The music is by Nathan Larson and the cinematography by John Bailey. It was edited by Carol Littleton. Route One Films Wildwood Enterprises is the production company and it was distributed by Broad Green Pictures. It was released on January 23rd, 2015 at the Sundance festival, and September 2nd, 2015 in the United States. The run time is 104 minutes. The budget was $8 million and the Box office is 14.7 million.

a walk in the woods logo

The concept of A Walk in the Woods was actually in the making a decade ago; only a few years after the book was published. Robert Redford announced the movie in 2005 and also stated that he would not only produce but also star in the film adaptation of the book. Robert Redford hoped that his friend and costar Paul Newman would join and portray the character Katz, but a couple of years later he retired from acting. Although Chris Columbus had initially agreed, in 2007, to direct A Walk in the Woods, a year later it was said that the film was delayed and Barry Levinson would direct the film. Chris Columbus was known for directing the Harry Potter films and Home Alone, and Barry Levinson directed Rain Man. The Hollywood writer’s strike was responsible for delaying the production of A Walk in the Woods. Larry Charles was going to be the director but he was replaced by Ken Kwapis, known for his work in The Office and Big Miracle. Michael Arndt wrote the original draft and the final was written by Bill Holderman. Much of A Walk in the Woods was filmed in Dawsonville, Georgia.

The cast includes Emma Thomson as Catherine Bryson, Robert Redford as Bill Bryson, R. Keith Harris as Sam Bryson, Nick Nolte as Stephen Katz, Kristen Schaal as Mary Ellen, Nick Offerman as REI Dave, Mary Steenburgen as Jeannie, Hayley Lovitt as Donna, Susan McPhail as Beulah, Linda Edwards as Darren, Gaia Wise as Becca, Randall Newsome as TV Host, Andrew Vogel as a hiker, and Derek Krantz as another hiker.

The story primarily focuses on Bill Bryson. Bryson is a writer and he spends 20 years of his life living in Britain, then moves to New Hampshire. He resides there for 10 years. As a middle aged man Bryson has become a fairly successful writer, but an interview on television declares that he is going to be publishing more books—which isn’t exactly the case, as Bryson is not working on any other pieces.

a walk in the woods

He later goes to a social event with his wife and it becomes clear that he is not very outgoing, and talking to people and socializing isn’t exactly his longsuit. A walk near the Appalachian Trail inspires Bill to hike it. His wife isn’t very supportive or happy about the idea, thinking it to be very dangerous. At last, she relents, on the terms that Bill finds someone to tag along with him, and this he does with some degree of difficulty. Most of the people he asks tell him they won’t go, and some even go so far as to say he is crazy for even attempting it. At last Stephen Katz, Bill’s former friend, steps out and takes the position. Bill’s wife doesn’t like Stephen for a hiking companion but she still says they can go. Stephen is not in the best shape, and in fact is overweight, and it appears he may still be an alcoholic.

Before Bill and Stephen get beyond a mile it begins to dawn on them how challenging the task may be for them. Children and other hikers pass them with ease as the two elder men struggle along, but it also ignites sufficient motivation in them to keep going. The two do not give up, meeting plenty of interesting people along the way. Eventually Bill and Stephen arrive at the more formidable section, after days of hiking, that has a sign which reads “for experienced hikers only.” They undergo quite a blunder at this point, as the two trip and fall some distance down a ridge. They land safely but find it impossible to return to the trail. Thankfully, the next day they are rescued by a group of hikers passing through.

After three long months of hiking Bill and Stephen trudge through the rain and come to a hut with a map carved into it. This map reveals that the two have only hiked one third of the whole trail, even though they had been walking for months. At last the two decide to turn back home instead of finishing it through. The name of the movie is revealed at the end, when Bill and Stephen have safely returned to their homes and Bill receives a post card from Stephen that asks “What’s next?” After this, Bill goes to his computer and types “A WALK IN THE WOODS.”

So far the film A Walk in the Woods has been received with slightly mixed opinions. To back this up Rotten Tomatoes gives the movie an approval rating of 46%, Metacritic gives it 51%, and IMDb gives it 6.7/10 stars. Many people who watched A Walk in the Woods certainly did like it, calling it funny, enjoyable, delightful, and overall fun. Many of those who liked the movie also read the book and enjoyed both, but those who did not read the book also found themselves having a good time. Critics of the movie call it “inconsequential,” saying that it feels artificial, little else but a walk, and some also did not like the differences between the movie and the film. Black Mass

Black Mass, the 2015 movie, was released in Venice on September 4th and in the United States on September 18th. The American crime film is based off a book written by Dick Lehr and Gerard O’Neill in 2001 called Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob. Black Mass was directed and produced by Scott Cooper. Other producers include Tyler Thompson, John Lesher, Patrick McCormick, and Brian Oliver. The screenplay is by Mark Mallouk and Jez Butterworth. The music was by Junkie XL and cinematography was done by Masanobu Takayanagi. Black Mass was distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures and the production companies include RatPac Entertainment and Cross Creek Pictures. The running time is 122 minutes and it was made in the United States; the language is English. The budget for the film was $62 million, there is, as of yet, no Box Office.

black mass logo

The book Black Mass is said to be a true story built on a man named William “Billy” Bulger. It also included the lives of Whitey Bulger, John Connolly an FBI agent, and J. Edgar Hoover’s witness protection program. Filming started off in Boston on May 19th, 2014. Scenes were shot in Dorchester, the Polish American Club, East Boston, Copley Square, Quincy, South Boston, the Harvard Club, Revere Beach, and the former Anthony’s Hawthorne restaurant. On August 1st of 2014 filming for Black Mass was concluded.

Black Mass’ cast is: Johnny Depp as Whitey Bulger, Joel Edgerton as John Connolly, Benedict Cumberbatch as William “Billy” Bulger, Dakota Johnson as Lindsey Cyr, Kevin Bacon as Charles McGuire, Jesse Plemons as Kevin Weeks, Corey Stoll as Fred Wyshak, Peter Sarsgaard as Brian Holloran, David Harbour as John Morris, Rory Cochrane as Stephen “The Rifleman” Flemmi, Julianne Nicholson as Marianne Connolly, James Russo as Scott Garriola, Adam Scott as Robert Fitzpatrick, Jeremy Strong as Josh Bond, Brad Carter as John McIntyre, W. Earl Brown as Johnny Martorano, Juno Temple as Deborah Hussey, Erica McDermott as Mary Bulger, and Berglind Jónsdóttir as Anna Björnsdóttir.

Whitey Bulger is an infamous gangster who is up in fame with other notorious figures such as Al Capone. He became godfather, basically, of the Irish mob. Barry Levinson had initially had the project but it was handed over to Scott Cooper. Aside from the fact that Cooper was already quite intrigued by Bulger, in 2011 something happened that made his connection even more fascinating and strong. In that year Bulger was discovered in hiding in Santa Monica, California, which also happened to be mere miles from where Cooper himself lived.

Although Bulger was, obviously, a villain, he was in many ways looked at as a somewhat hero in the community, rather like Robin Hood. It was true he was an outlaw those who were nearby saw him in almost a protective, community sense, as though he belonged with them or to them. He was known as being something of a good Samaritan; he even helped old women and had a habit of handing out food during the holidays. In the end, however, Bulger and his gang became even more ominous a threat than the mafia, but the Boston community was slow in realizing the full scale of things.

As the years went by Bulger was allowed to conduct his business virtually in plain site. How was this possible? He was in part being shielded by a certain branch of the Boston FBI. It was the FBI, also, that warned him about imminent indictment, giving him the opportunity to flea in 1995. For 16 years Bulger was missing. In fact, for much of that time he was number 2 on the FBI’s most wanted list. Only Osama bin Laden outranked him.

black mass meeting at a table

Another interesting dimension of the story is Whitey Bulger’s younger brother William. William was, essentially, Whitey’s opposite. He was a man of faith and took good care of his family. In time he also rose up in society making a big name for himself. He became a very powerful man who was quite well known as a noteworthy politician and a president of the Massachusetts State Senate. When confronted by the authorities he refused to help them locate his brother or give any information about him. This lead him to resign from his position as president of the Massachusetts State Senate.

The movie is based on many actual facts which took place, and the characters are modeled after the real people involved. The film will be packed full of vengeance, beatings, murder, mayhem, and other exciting happenings. It obviously has a few famous names, Depp and Cumberbatch definitely among them and offering a big selling point and plenty of promise for Black Mass. As the movie has, at this time, not even been released yet, there is not a whole lot that has been decided on—in regards to opinions and ratings. So far, however, things are looking rather favorable and promising.

death black mass

At this point Metacritic has given the film an approval rating of 71%, Rotten Tomatoes gives it 80%, and IMDb gives it a rather outstanding 9.1/10 stars. Right now things are looking pretty bright for Black Mass, but the film has time, yet, to prove its worth and ratings may definitely fluctuate especially at this early stage. A lot of good things are being said about Depp’s work in the film. One viewer disliked the “physical transformation” which Depp underwent in order to play the part, but this did not seem to bother very many people. There have been relatively few negative remarks about Black Mass —they are few and far between, but, they are out there and time will certainly unearth a few more. Thus far the movie has been received quite favorably, especially by Johnny Depp fans. Praise has been given to the other actors as well, such as Nicholson and Cumberbatch. Many people are calling Black Mass a “masterpiece” and saying it will garner an Oscar. For now, time will tell all, and it is no secret, however, that the film is very highly anticipated. Check out Black Mass on a movie network when you sign up for Comcast XFINITY TV deals.

The Perf Guy

the perfect guyThe Perfect Guy is a thriller film and it was released on September 11th, 2015, in North America. It was directed by David M. Rosenthal and produced by Tommy Oliver, Nicole Rocklin, Darryl Taja, and Wendy Rhoads. The Perfect Guy screenplay is by Tyger Williams and the story was by Tyger Williams and Alan B. McElroy. The music is by David Fleming and Alti Orvarsson. It was edited by Joan Sobel and Peter Simonite did cinematography. Running time is 100 minutes and The Perfect Guy was distributed by Screen Gems. It originated in the United States, the language for the film is English, and the budget was $12 million. Considering how new the movie is there is no Box Office as of yet. Principal photography of The Perfect Guy began in Los Angeles on August 6th, 2014. Most of the movie was shot at night, and anamorphic lenses and Sony digital cameras were used. Filming went on for 34 days and came to an end during the middle of September of that same year. Because it was intended that The Perfect Guy have a mysterious atmosphere and look it needed to be dark. The very first official trailer for the film was debuted on June 3rd, 2014. Screen Gems debuted it on the website for USA Today.

The cast for The Perfect Guy includes: Sanaa Lathan as Leah, Michael Ealy as Carter, Morris Chestnut as Dave, L. Scott Caldwell as Evelyn, Charles S. Dutton as Roger, John Getz as Renkin, Tess Harper as Mrs. McCarthy, Kathryn Morris as Karen, Rutina Wesley as Alica, Holt McCallany as Detective Hansen, Jessica Parker Kennedy as Rachel, David Starzyk as Frank, Shannon Lucio as Cindy, Ronnie Gene Blevins as Roy the mechanic, Wilmer Calderon as Detective Gardner, and Gordon Clapp as Bill Forsythe.

Chestnut, Ealy, and Lathan all joined the cast of the film on April 30th of 2014. Wesley and McCallany joined on August 6th, 2014, and a bout a week later on August 12th Morris came on board.

the perfect guy great cinematography

Leah is in a relationship with Dave, but things turn sour due to the fact that they have differences in what they want in their futures. Leah very badly wants to build a family with children, and overall Dave is somewhat disinterested in the possibility. Their relationship comes to an end and Leah soon after meets Carter at a coffee shop and then again through a chance encounter. On first impressions Carter is charming—albeit in a sweet and humble way, and respectful, not to mention quite attractive. The more Leah learns about Carter and the better they get to know each other she finds him to be everything she had ever wanted. He is devoted and passionate, he even appears to want a family like Leah does. This is, obviously, where the title comes in, and that fact is clearly defined when Leah’s friend Alica states that “he might be the perfect guy!” Carter even hits it off with Leah’s father, making an excellent impression.

Of course, if Carter truly were the perfect guy, there likely wouldn’t be a story. Things begin to change when Carter loses control and badly beats a man at a gas station, all because Carter thought the guy was hitting on Leah. Leah, shocked and frightened by Carter’s display of violence and cruelty, decides it is best to terminate the relationship. Unfortunately for Leah, things don’t quite end there either.the perfect guy sony pictures

Carter is very skilled when it comes to spy cameras and security systems due to the fact that he happens to be an IT expert. This makes him a well-equipped stalker and all the more threatening and terrifying. No time is waste before he begins to become a horror in Leah’s life, and, of course, things get much worse when she and Dave make amends. Everything Leah and Dave try proves to be useless. Dave makes public threats against Carter and they get detectives to look into things, but that is no help. Eventually Leah even gets a restraining order against Carter but that is just a piece of paper to him. It becomes vividly clear that Carter isn’t just a frazzled ex, he is a psychotic maniac.

Many stereotypes and cliches are thought to exist in A Perfect Man. In fact, some are even calling it a Fatal Attraction knockoff—and not the only one of its kind. It follows a particular pattern which other movies before it have also done. It takes the woman and makes her a helpless victim who is subjected to the malice and cruelty of her attacker and makes her vulnerable and defenseless. At first, everything seems well, but a wolf in sheep’s clothing gets into a woman’s heart and turns out to be a violent pscyho. Her boyfriend—in this case Dave—is also rather powerless, even against one other man. Unfortunately, however, some of these cliches and stereotypes do tend to glimmer with rays of truth. Psychopaths and abusers of women, for example, often tend to be very charming and sweet at first, molding into everything a woman wants—this is a reality that later takes a 180 degree shift. There is also always the horror of being a powerless victim which is what perpetuates the making of such thrillers.

the perfect guy main character

At this point it is too early to really say what people will think of the film overall. There are some reviews, but many people have yet to see it. At this point Rotten Tomatoes has given it an approval rating of 25% and IMDb gives it 4.9/10 stars. Although these ratings are not all that great there is time for them to change. There have been a few who liked The Perfect Man, calling the film competent, satisfying, and appealing, but the vast majority are, at this point, critics, talking about the reasons why The Perfect Man doesn’t quite have it. They say it does not break any molds and they call it lazy, witless, and boring. Soon it will be clear whether the movie is a hit or just a complete miss, but for those who do like Fatal Attraction-themed movies, this one should be fairly good. In March of this year the title was altered from The Transporter Legacy and changed to its present title, The Transporter Refueled. Frank Martin is the primary focus of The Transporter Refueled. He is a former special-ops mercenary whose life has become somewhat ordinary, at least, that is what it appears at first. Frank spends his time transporting classified packages for people who are perhaps a little shady. Frank and his father Ray—who is retired from doing espionage work and is now a salesmen–decide to spend some time together in the south of France. Things do not go quite as they should, however, and their bonding experience is interrupted by a woman named Anna and her associates. Anna is a clever femme-fatale and they decide to perform the biggest bank-robbing endeavor of the century. Frank must come to the rescue to thwart their plans, using what he knows about driving fast cars, women, and his covert expertise in order to accomplish the task. He is tossed into the middle of a dangerous game between a team of vengeful beautiful women, and meanwhile he must race against a malicious Russian kingpin.

Many people who have seen The Transporter Refueled were expecting to see Jason Statham. Instead, they are met by the replacement—Ed Skrien, known for his work in Game of Thrones. He is certainly not the most identical replacement to Statham but he makes it work somewhat with his good-looks and the fact that he shares the screen with Audi, Evian, and American Express.

transporter main character

One potential weakness of the film is the lack of sensitivity or graveness given to human trafficking. The female robbers, all clad in blond wigs, are, as it turns out, former sex slaves who are seeking revenge on their ex-pimp. Despite the very tragedy of the situation, however, there is relatively little genuine seriousness towards the subject, and sometimes it almost seems to be treated with a very subtle comedy. It is also, of course, obvious that the women themselves are dressed and behave provocatively and used as more-or-less sexual symbols within the film itself.

Despite there being relatively no character development—which isn’t exactly uncommon in action films—there is, according to some, a lot of talking that isn’t really pulled off well. It has been said that the dialog is a bit wooden, but the actors also don’t quite seem in-step with their lines. Action movies are, generally, watched neither for the dialog or the development of character. The mayhem, chase sequences, outrageous stunts, and overall action is said to be rather enjoyable, if nothing else.

villain the transporter refueled

For the most part the movie has not done so well. Metacritic has given The Transporter Refueled a dismal rating of 32%, IMDb gives it 4.7/10, and Rotten Tomatoes gives it only a staggering 16%. Much of these poor ratings are a result of Ed Skrien starring, as opposed to Jason Statham, as most people had anticipated. Some people, upon hearing the news, chose not even to watch the movie while others went through with it but strongly disliked Ed Skrien’s acting. Aside from that, there are also critics who did not appreciate even the action, claiming that the choice of cars and car-tricks was inexcusable. Critics say the film is ridiculous, silly, and stupid, sporting a poor storyline on top of everything else.

For those who did not mind the recasting of Ed Skrien, however, there are still a select few who did find the film tolerable, if not, in some cases, even enjoyable due to the action shots and the beautiful women. Many fans say, in context, that an action movie—which The Transporter Refueled is—is not going to have great dialog or the other characteristics of a drama, but, for an action movie, provides what you expect and does pretty good at delivering. The first official trailer was released to theaters on April 17th, 2014 and later that week it was released online. On August 30th The Visit premiered in Ireland.

The cast of the film consists of Olivia DeJonge as Rebecca Jamison, Ed Oxenbould as Tyler Jamison, Kathryn Hahn as Paula Jamison, Deanna Dunagan as Doris Jamison, Peter McRobbie as John Jamison, Benjamin Kanes as Robert, Celia Keenan-Bolger as Stacey, Jon Douglas Rainey as Brian Gildea, Shawn Gonzalez, and Richard Barlow as Police Officers, Michael Mariano as Hairy Chested Contestant, Erica Lynne Marszalek and Shawn Gonzalez as Train Passengers, and Steve Annan as Man on Street.

The title, The Visit, has to do with the central plot which involves two teenagers—Rebecca and Tyler— as they visit their grandparents. The siblings have never met their grandparents and on the stay, which is over the course of a week, they intend to film a documentary about their trip and time with their grandparents. Paula, Rebecca and Tyler’s mother, is embarking on a cruise with her boyfriend. She has not seen her parents in many years. In fact, she has not seen them in 15 years because she ran away with Robert who was her high-school teacher, obviously to her parent’s strong displeasure. Robert has left her since then and she explains some of this story to Rebecca, but much remains unanswered and Rebecca is somewhat curious, leaving open the possibility that she may ask her grandparents for more information.

John and Doris, their grandma and grandpa, are there to meet Rebecca and Tyler at the train station. They live in a farmhouse which is isolated out in the country. Once Rebecca and Tyler arrive, their grandparents warn them about the basement, telling them never to go down due to the fact that it contains dangerous, toxic mold. John explains that because they are elderly people they go to bed early and that bedtime is 9:30. An hour later Rebecca goes downstairs in search of food and there she discovers Doris who appears very sick and is vomiting. Of course Rebecca, concerned for her grandmother, brings this news to John. John seems unconcerned, saying it is probably nothing more serious than the stomach flu. After this Rebecca and Tyler are instructed to stay in their rooms past 9:30 at night. Doris’ strange illness is only the beginning of things. More and more odd events begin taking place and when Rebecca asks about her mother leaving home Doris goes into an episode of shrieking and shaking and won’t desist until Rebecca manages to calm her down. In another incidence a woman confronts John and Doris and she is seen going into their home but no one sees her leave.

Tyler decides to do some investigating as he is worried about his grandparents’ unusual and somewhat frightening behavior. He hides a camera downstairs in the hopes of unveiling what takes place there during the night. Doris finds the camera and becomes intent on violence, but she is unable to break into Tyler and Rebecca’s bedrooms because they are locked. After they look at the footage on the camera they get in touch with their mother Paula and discover that Doris and John are not their grandparents at all. Things quickly unravel in a violent event as Tyler and Rebecca uncover the truth and try to escape with their lives.

At this point reviews are slightly mixed but they could change in either direction. Only time will tell, for sure, what people will think of the film. Rotten Tomatoes has given the movie an approval rating of 62%, which although is not fantastic it is at least reasonable. This rating may still change, of course.

the visit1

In the end there are a few characteristics from Hansel and Gretel which are present in The Visit. For one, the two children are brother and sister. They find their way to an isolated location with two elderly people. One of the big distinguishing factors, aside from the eventual outcome and motive of the plot, is the fact that Tyler and Rebecca film everything, giving it a somewhat Paranormal Activity feel. In the end The Visit aims to supply its viewers with a mixture of humor and horror which many claim it does quite well. It has also been said that due to some of the strangeness of the events it may even develop a cult following. There have been a few jump-scares, reportedly, but it is generally lighter than other horror movies, which, considering it contains some element of humor, could be expected.

Critics claim that The Visit proved to be a mediocre disappointment. While some say it would make more sense as a comedy others did not find it either frightening or funny. Quite a few people are somewhat wary of M. Night Shyamalan, as well, but others say he has made a comeback with The Visit. Those who didn’t like it criticize the fact that the film is low-budget, but other reviews claim that decent entertainment can actually come cheap. Also, if you don’t like found footage films—which are relatively common—you may not like The Visit. There are still those, of course, who love found footage, and this may be worth watching. The Errors of Dining Etiquette on Downton Abbey

dowager-countess-of-grantham-etiquette-tipA little etiquette can go a long way; while modern etiquette is nowhere near as strict nor thorough as the etiquette of the past, shows such as the period drama Downton Abbey resurrect the concept of rigorous etiquette that governs everything from the way you enter a room, greet someone on the street, all the way down to the way you eat your dinner.

The creative team behind Downton Abbey has often reveled in the fact that they stick as close to period etiquette as they can, but some people—including historical etiquette expert, the Countess of Carnavon, who happens to be the mistress of the on-site castle that the show films in, are less than pleased with how the show depicts its dining etiquette. Let’s look at some of the historical dining etiquette blunders committed by Downton Abbey, courtesy of the Countess of Carnavon.

The table settings are nowhere near elaborate enough

If there is one thing that the wealthy in Edwardian society loved to do, it was show off their wealth and status through a carefully designed, carefully prepared table setting. While the tables in Downton Abbey look nice, the Countess of Carnavon has pointed out that many little details are incorrect or missing all together. For example, the eating utensils should always be arranged according to courses—for example, the bread knife would be placed on the very outside, while the cheese forks would be placed on the inside of the setting. Other little details, such as designs impressed on the pats of butter for each guest, are also missing—likely due to production constraints, since such little details would not be the focus of any dining scene.

The ladies sometimes eat too much

This is one piece of etiquette that we are glad to see go! In the era of Downton Abbey, it was considered poor etiquette for women to have a hearty appetite. While men could enjoy the many courses of an Edwardian dinner with gusto, the women were supposed to have a few bites of each course, to ensure that they didn’t appear too greedy or voracious. Many female characters on the show simply eat too much without being criticized by the Dowager.

There aren’t enough servants

The elite living in Downton Abbey at the height would have had far more servants on hand, especially for dinner, than what is depicted in the show. In the show, only two footmen are present during dinner to refill glasses and deliver courses; in reality, however, there would have been at least half a dozen footmen for a typical dinner—and possibly more, depending on the dinner party size and the occasion. The production team behind Downton Abbey has stated that the “two footmen depicted are representative of a large number of staff that would have existed at the time.” In other words—the lower amount of footmen is likely a constraint of the show’s budget.

Other servants, such as the butler and various maids who would have been on hand to provide any assistance necessary during dinner, are also often missing during these scenes. To watch Downton Abbey in your home, purchase a Comcast XFINITY internet package today.

3 Must-See Netflix Shows

Untitled-3

Netflix has come a long way since its early days as a Blockbuster rival. In addition to being the leading service for streaming TV shows and movies, Netflix now has a sizable collection of its own original programming. There are many Netflix originals that are worth a look or two, including many shows that definitely fit under the category of ‘must see’ TV. Of course, the great thing about “must see” Netflix shows are that you can watch them at your leisure; whether you’re the type to binge watch an entire season over the weekend or you’d rather take it slow.

No matter how you prefer to watch TV, if you’re looking for something original and special to watch on Netflix, take a look at the following must-see Netflix shows.

The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

ellie kemper

This upbeat, quirky show written by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock is a perfect mood elevator. The show stars Ellie Kemper as the titular Kimmy Schmidt, who is one of four women held hostage in an underground bunker for years by a cult leader. This may seem like a strange premise for a show described as upbeat, quirky and a great mood booster—but the show’s focus on the native, kind-hearted Kimmy making her way through modern day New York gives the story an uplifting and hilarious tone. Great performances by the cast round out the writing to make The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt a definite must-watch.

Sense8

Sense8 is a science-fiction series from the minds of the Wachowski siblings. The series follows eight people who are suddenly linked emotionally and mentally after a tragic death. The show comes just after the box office flop of the Wachowski’s latest film, Jupiter Ascending, which left many fans wondering if the show’s quality would match–for better or worse–that of the infamous ‘Ascending’ film. Contrary to popular expectations, however, Sense8 is a smart, dynamic and intriguing science fiction show–and it’s made all the more intriguing because of the general lack of science fiction original programming on Netflix. If you’re in the mood for something a bit cerebral, take a look at Sense8.

Orange is the New Black

If you haven’t started watching Orange is the New Black yet, you are missing out on one of the smartest, more entertaining shows currently in production—both on and off Netflix! The series is based on the real life memoir of Piper Kerman, who found herself in prison after becoming involved with a drug cartel and wrote about her experiences dealing with the prison system, fellow prisoners, and her own journey as she discovered truths about herself. Although the show changes character names and relationships, and frequently ups the stakes with more drama that wasn’t present in the original book, it is an undeniably addicting to watch. One of the reasons for the show’s amazing success is its diverse cast and its more grounded portrayal of prison life—and prisoners—which defies the usual expectations most people have of what people in prison are really like.

Why The Gimmicky Stunts On Animated Shows Have to Stop

seymour frys dog dies

Homer and Marge Simpson are breaking up! Or says the latest announcement from the creative team of the Simpsons, who have revealed that the couple make be splitting due to some marital problems in future episodes. The move is very reminiscent of a Family Guy stunt last year, which involved Brian—the wise cracking family dog—dying and being replaced by a new dog character.

The reaction to the announcement was almost universally negative. Fans are tired of these gimmicky stunts, particularly since they seem to have taken off in a bizarre way with animated shows aimed at slightly older audiences in recent years. These stunts are definitely past their prime, and it’s time that the writers and other creatives behind these shows put their foot down and stop them. The following are some more definitive reasons why these stunts simply have to go.

Untitled-3

They never last longer than a few episodes, at most

The changes brought on by these stunts never last very long. At most, they last a few episodes—but even that is unusual. On Family Guy, Brian was brought back to life after 2 episodes—that is, if you count the episode where he died as a full episode. And the supposed split between Marge and Homer will probably last just as long.

If the goal of the writing team is to provide something fresh and new to shake up the story—not a bad idea, given that these shows have been one for many, many seasons at this point—then introducing a gimmick that gets reversed within a few episodes is not the way to do it.

They don’t positively impact the ratings for very long

family guy brian dies

The goal of any change in a TV show is to improve the ratings. Yet these gimmicky stunts don’t make a positive impact on the ratings for very long, which means they were essentially a pointless move. The “Life of Brian” episode of Family Guy, where Brian died, earned some pretty good ratings for an animated show on Fox the night that it aired. After Brian returned, however, the ratings dropped back down to what they were before the stunt. If the ratings impact doesn’t last more than a few episodes, at most, then what is the point?

It shows a lack of creativity within the writing team

Shows get stale. This is a fact of life, and it’s especially noticeable in shows like The Simpsons or even Family Guy, which have been around for their fair share of seasons. When a show gets stale, the writers may try to freshen things up with new characters or something that radically alters the plot. These gimmicks, however, just aren’t creative. They’re almost always out of the blue and in some cases unrealistic due to huge jumps in character dynamics or personalities. In the end, it shows a general lack of creativity with the writing team, if they must rely on cheap gimmicks rather than any sort of meaningful changes to the show. If you have a Comcast internet package at home, you can stream these shows any time you’d like.
